Been Down So Long It Looks Like Up To Me

I am very angry and disheartened today, so my words will not necessarily be cogent or correct.  They will however, be quite emotional, which probably is not a good thing.

McCain/Palin versus Obama/Biden comes down to a cultural bias versus a future-oriented, problem solving emphasis, fantasy versus reality.  Palin is telling everyone that she is proud to be a mother, proud that her 17 year old daughter made the right decision to have her baby, proud that this teenager will marry this child’s father.  I guarantee you that once Palin’s grandchild is born, there will be nannies coming out the kazoo and daddy Levi Johnson will be whisked away into our armed forces to learn how to be a real man and shoot and kill.  After all, image is what really counts.

Let me ask this question:  if Palin was so proud of her own situation, how come she did not inform anyone, including her parents and children, about her last pregnancy until well into the third trimester?  Fears for her job?  Scared for her image?   Where was her guts and glory then?

She is the biggest phony.  She is getting away with a facade of real motherhood, a penchant for devaluing education and taking taxpayer’s money for her per diem of living each day at the governor’s mansion.  Sure, it is easy, if not imperative, for her to spout off family values, just as long as SHE does not have to abide by them.

But of course, WE do.  This is the cultural hypocrisy she is shoveling out.  She has and will continue to reap the rewards of a life defined by excess, living off the taxpayers’ dollars.  All the while, the average American Jane is supposed to suck it up,  not whine and lead an impoverished uneducated, dead-end existence.

As of yesterday, McCain/Palin is leading with independent voters.  These people are no way independent, but self-imposed victims to true elitist leader-wanna-bes who are hell-bent on keeping the masses in their lowly places.  McCain criticized Obama for being nothing more than a celebrity.  What exactly has Palin been these last two weeks, and has she laid out ANY information at all about her knowledge or positions on health care, education (besides her really effective belief in abstinence), energy policy (besides diverting as much funds as possible to her state of Alaska), immigration policy, taxes, etc.?  Palin, so far, is an empty shell of a political candidate whose past actions have been entirely self-serving.  Talk about celebrity!

And what of her past experience?  McCain has consistently berated Obama for his lack of time in government.  Then he selects Palin to be his running mate, virtually stating that “we can do Obama better than Obama can.”  Unbelievable.

This country’s response to this facade has been strong.  It is a visceral reaction coming from way down in the gut.  It is not based on fact at all, and that is what makes this race so very worrisome and potentially treacherous.

I remember when I was a teenager and a yukky, nerdy boy would make a pass at me.  He would constantly ask me out and the thought of it made me nauseous.  Then he shows up, months down the road, with a steady girlfriend on his arm.  All of a sudden, I started to look at him differently, as if this arm candy made him perhaps something to behold.  With maturity, I learned that my first impression was generally correct, to trust myself.    However, let’s face it:  images can be altered by who’s hanging with you.  This is precisely what has happened to McCain by his selection of Palin.  A tired, sick old man has been given new life by attaching himself to young, vivacious ball of bluster.  God help us.

In my comments, “Middle Child” summed it up perfectly:  we aren’t looking for substance.  All we really want is image.  It’s that “beer buddy” mentality all over again.

So let the economy completely tank, let our international power and standing fall even lower into the toilet and yes, let us even have terrorists threaten within our borders once again.  Things are going to have to get MUCH worse before America wakes up and chooses an effective leader with an actual spine of knowledge, tact and substance to lead us out of our deepening hell.

So people of America, be very careful what you wish —– and VOTE —– for.  Does McCain/Palin really feel your struggles of everyday life?  Do you have health care insurance?  They do.  Do you have retirement savings?  They do.  Walmart moms, do you have a husband (oops — is there an actual husband in your picture?) who can compete in snow races, provide stud services, not earn a living nor provide childcare?  Hockey moms, do you even have the time, between your three jobs, to drive (oops again — can you afford to own a car, pay for the insurance and put gas in it?) your brood to and from extra-curricular activities?  Pardon me —– oops again —– can your community afford to provide athletic leagues on their shoe-string budgets?

Wake up America and smell the roses.  We have been DOWN for so long that we wouldn’t even recognize UP if it smacked us in the face.  I have news for you.  UP goes by the name Barack Obama.  He is not perfect, nor will his leadership be so.  But he is a damn good choice on which to place a hefty bet, not to mention your life.

What a country!  Our moronic masses and the Republicans who claim to be their saviors couldn’t lift themselves out of the mired pit they have created even if they tried.  Further, if the people don’t better THEMSELVES they will continue to have NO CLUE to the why and wherefore of helping others.  Americans are choosing VICTIMIZATION, and that is just fine and dandy with McCain/Palin.  That is their goal:  more for me, less for you, all couched in right wing morality.

I feel as if I am drowning in an abyss of ignorance and hocus-pocus semantics.  Thank the stars and heavens that I do not get paid to post these thoughts;  I need a break.

So to Chuck my editor, Maribel my muse, Linz my captain, Lilley my hope and Fernald my alter-ego, thank you.   Please help me if you can.

See ya’ when I see ya’.

Yo Mama For Obama:  still and always.  YES WE CAN.

So who was the yukky, nerdy boy who tried to make a pass at you?????

I couldn’t have said it better. It is midnight and yet again, night two I cannot sleep because of this utter electoral insanity. The injustice of the last eight years presents a mountain which I cannot climb. Another mountain is again placed in my way. Yet again incompetent leadership awaits. Will we ever climb the heights this nation can reach? I know we can as we have climbed it before but not in a very long time.

When will sleep come? Perhaps, after McCain/Palin get elected the country will be besieged yet again by insurmountable debt, a collapse of markets, and our adversaries will try ever so hard to find the bulls eyes on our back, take aim and fire because our leadership will be so clueless, so rancid, so corrupt and so uncaring of the masses they feign to care about that the sleep I fear will be the sleep of death. Maybe it will only be then that I will get the rest I need.

This country is, I fear, about to take a Uturn to an eternity they did not foresee but perhaps subliminally want. The Revelation they yearn for so longingly they just may obtain. They will surely not enounter the myth of heaven, nor Jesus nor anything but the cold of the six feet under. I am death says the Bagavad Gita, the destroyer of worlds and through our unfathomable stupidity we are heading in that direction presciently seen by the nuclear bomb creators. Our adversaries know no mercy and we are at the mercy of our unqualified leaders yet again.

Go ahead, America, eight years of sick, merciless, putrid policy is not enough. Yet again the abyss awaits. It beckons you to the rim of eternity. This time 9/11 may not be the only gift your policies bestow. This time it could indeed be worse. You could choose life or death, it’s up to you.

It is an alarming time to breath the night. The night turns not into dawn but to eternal night. Beware, the end times are surely at hand but you and you alone are creating the nightmare. You alone have the power to reverse the trend but will you?. Time will tell. The night now grows short and I am so very tired but I cannot sleep. I am afraid.
